I always feel spread so thin.  I always want to help.  Help everyone.  I hear about the children enslaved to fight for the LRA in Uganda.  I hear about South American peoples starving to death.  I hear about worthwhile causes everyday.  But what can I do?  Do I give to http://www.invisiblechildren.com , and help the kids who are being forced to rape and murder their fellow Ugandans?  Do I give to http://www.heifer.org , and help out families who are starving to death by allowing them some stability and a source of income?  Do I give to the United Way, or to cancer research, or to homeless shelters, or to people I meet who are down on their luck?  Is my time better spent leading a cell group?  Do I keep mentoring?  Is a week long mission enough?  Is 10% of my allowance and my blood money enough?  Is 20%?  Is 100%?  If I go to Peru or Bolivia on a long term mission, will I be focusing my time too much in one area and ignoring whole other continents?  I just don’t ever know what to do with all that I have.

It's like how we all make up the body of Christ. We all do different things, so it kinda covers it. God finds ways. That's what I think. But I'll be praying for you, Matt.

A week long mission isnt enough, neither is a year long mission or a life time of mission work.  There will always be someone else in need, that cant be helped.  But that doesnt mean that you shouldnt.  Where ever you go, give your all, be an example and others will follow.  Give what you can to on foundation or spread it across several foundations, every little bit helps, even if its just telling others about it instead of giving money.  Just be silent and listen (theres a video somewhere that has a real good message about being silent, i cant find it, but when i do i will let you know.).  Youll know what to do when the time comes.

matt dear, if only the whole church, or even a small percentage of it were struggling with the same things you were.  i echo the two comments already made.  and you just have to talk to God about it, you know?  you are ridiculously gifted in many areas.  there are so many things that you do that no one else can do.  but there are things you can't do.  (that's hard for even me to admit.  but it's true.  there are some things that matt noetzel cannot do.)  but like the first comment says, we all do different things.  God's got it covered.  as to where your time and money and energy and other resources are best spent, that's something you have to discuss with God.  and as the second comment says, be silent and listen.  and i don't know if i'm thinking of the same video that they are, but i've got something.  but another big part of this is trusting that God has you where he has you for a reason.  if you're here, you've gotta believe that you're here doing what you do because this is your best fit.  because there's no one else that can do what you do.  if you're overseas doing stuff, you have to believe that you're there because that's where God wants you.  again, i think it would be fabulous if everyone were struggling with this same thing.  but know this, and i know you hate compliments, but matthew isaac, you are one amazing kid.  one of the most amazing people i've ever had the privilege to meet.  all the stuff i've been saying the past few days via email?  i ain't lying.  and i would be willing to put money down that you'd have to look for a long time to find someone who didn't think so.

and on a side note, part of the reason i want to see you sometime this week is because i want to give you a present.  sort of a belated birthday present.  also, can you have stuff mailed to you at war eagle?

take care, matty.

Matt, you have a good heart. You'll figure out what it is that you need to do to help without trying to do everything.
